August 4th, 2007: Installation of
the wrought iron front gate. Simple design but functional, sturdy
as hell, and provides an external, physical security perimeter in case
druglord rivals try to storm the compound.

August 4th, 2007: A closer look at
the tile and color scheme in the guest casita.

August 4th, 2007: Wrought iron stair
bannister for the "non-hidden" stairs down to the basement.

August 4th, 2007: Installation of
the saltillo tile begins. This is a view of the greatroom from the
perspective of the north patio entrance. After installing the tile, the
installers will treat it with linseed oil to give it a darker color.

|
August 4th, 2007: Another view of
the saltillo installation from the south hallway. The nice thing about
saltillo tile, from an installation perspective, is that it is easy to
cut and shape for fitting around walls and corners. Unfortunately, for
this reason it is also much more fragile than the more popular
porcelain alternative.

August 7th, 2007: Outside lighting
is installed. The wrought iron look was chosen to match the gates.
|
|
August 20th, 2007: A closer look at
the saltillo tile from the entrance of the master suite into the north
hall. The paint is new (yellow something) which adorns all the walls in
the great room, kitchen, basement, and halls. |
|
August 20th, 2007:
A better view of the kitchen from the great room. This shows the
ceiling islands, which mirror the islands beneath them. The new
paint gives the whole space a warm glow. |

August 20th, 2007: SRP finally digs
the trench and drops cables to hook the house up to the city grid.

|
August 23rd, 2007: Some of the more
elaborate interior lighting. This chandelier is in the front
entryway. |
|
August 23rd, 2007: One of the
bathroom sinks in the boys' bathroom. |
|
August 23rd, 2007: Tub and tile in
the master suite bathroom. |

August 23rd, 2007: One of the sinks
in the master suite bathroom. |
|
August 31st, 2007: Although the
courtyard doesn't need to be finished to pass inspection, the entryway
does need a threshold. They made this threshold out of left-over
saltillo tile. |
|
August 31st, 2007: The appliances
arrive! This is a 5-burner gas cooktop. I found out today that the gas
utility failed to install a gas stub on the property so they will
probably need to bore under the street to get a gas stub to the
property to hook up to the house. |
|
August 31st, 2007: The refrigerator.
Not pictured, there is also a dishwasher, built-in microwave, and an
oven. |
|
August 31st, 2007: This is a view of
the bottom of the hidden spiral from the rathskeller. It is also an
experiment in photography because there was very little light in the
rathskeller and a flash normally would have been required. Instead, I
decreased the shutter speed to take advantage of what little light
there was.

|
August 31st, 2007: One of two simple
vanity-sinks for the powder rooms. This powder room is off the south
hall next to the kitchen. The other vanity-sink is in the powder room
in the basement.
|
|
August 31st, 2007: Installation of
the carpet begins. The only rooms with carpet are the boys' rooms and
the basement. The boys wanted everything of theirs done in blue.
|
|
August 31st, 2007: The boys'
bathroom tub. The tile matches the sinks.
